We love snack mixes here. When the boys come grocery shopping with me they always point out items and declare them “good snack mix material.” Store-bought snack mixes are often overpriced and come in tiny bags that won’t feed our family, so we buy reasonable sizes of each ingredient and make large batches ourselves. My blends usually lean savory because that’s my preference, but my kids favor sweet-and-salty combinations—especially the sweeter side of the balance.
Their current favorite is the playful (and purposely gross-sounding) Fish Eye Sweet and Salty Snack Mix. The name was their idea—an attempt to be silly and gross—referencing round treats paired with Goldfish crackers. Despite the name, it’s genuinely tasty and simple to prepare.
This mix combines Cookies and Cream Goldfish, Pretzel Goldfish for the salty element, chocolate-covered raisins, and yogurt-covered raisins. The kids adore the variety of coated raisins: a few of them enjoy plain raisins, but all five of my children love the chocolate or yogurt-coated versions, so those rarely last long in our pantry. I don’t question it—I call it a win when they choose a snack and enjoy it.
Cookies and Cream Goldfish are worth mentioning—if you haven’t tried them, they resemble a familiar sandwich-cookie flavor and quickly became a household favorite. Stocking up on multiple bags is a good idea if you plan to make this often.
Besides being a family pleaser, this mix is a top contender for bake-sale or fundraiser success. It takes only a few minutes to assemble a large batch and a short bit of time to package it attractively. If you saw this at a bake sale, it would be hard to resist. What’s your favorite snack mix?
