Lemongrass, Ginger & Lemon Peel Tisane for Digestive Detox

featured 17358

Waking up after a night (or several days) of indulgence with tight rings, swollen ankles, and an upset stomach is never pleasant. I aim to eat well most of the time, but travel, social events, and occasional overeating happen. When they do, I reach for a simple, soothing remedy: a tummy detox herbal tea made from lemongrass, ginger, and lemon peel. It’s comforting, gentle on the stomach, and helps flush excess fluid.

This herbal tisane—my favorite—is a pleasant way to relieve bloating and mild water retention in ankles or fingers, and to calm an irritated stomach after overindulging or a hectic travel schedule. Lemongrass, ginger, and lemon peel each have gentle diuretic qualities that support the body’s natural fluid balance, and both ginger and lemongrass are well known for their digestive-soothing effects.

Beyond its benefits, this blend tastes fantastic. It combines bright citrus notes from lemon peel with the warming spice of ginger and the clean, grassy aroma of lemongrass. The result is a refreshing, calming cup that’s both flavorful and functional.

Cook’s Notes

  • This blend is technically a tisane—an infusion made from herbs and botanicals rather than true tea leaves (Camellia sinensis). Most people use the term “herbal tea” for convenience, and it communicates the idea clearly to non-specialists.
  • Dried lemongrass, dried ginger root pieces, and dried lemon peel are easy to source from health food stores and reputable online herb suppliers. Use quality dried ingredients for the best flavor and effect.
  • If you’re new to loose-leaf infusions, consider a stainless-steel tea filter that fits directly in a mug or refillable tea bags for travel. These let the ingredients expand and release their full flavor. An electric kettle is a small convenience for regular tea drinkers, but boiling water on the stove works just fine.

Tummy Detox Herbal Tea {Lemongrass, Ginger, Lemon Peel Tisane Blend}

Rebecca Lindamood
A calming blend of lemongrass, ginger, and lemon peel designed to soothe your stomach, support digestion, and help flush excess fluids.

Ingredients

For the Tummy Detox Herbal Tea Blend:

  • 1 cup dried cut and sifted lemongrass
  • 1/4 cup dried cut and sifted ginger root pieces
  • 1/4 cup dried cut and sifted lemon peel pieces or granules

To Brew the Herbal Tea Blend:

  • 1 heaping teaspoon of the tea blend
  • 8 ounces boiling water

Instructions

  • Mix the lemongrass, ginger root, and lemon peel together in a quart mason jar. Secure the lid and shake vigorously so the ingredients combine evenly. Store the blend in the jar or transfer it to an airtight tin.

To Brew the Herbal Tea Blend:

  • Place a heaping teaspoon of the blend into a stainless-steel tea filter or a refillable tea bag. Set the filter or bag in a mug and pour 8 ounces of boiling water over it. Cover the cup with a lid or saucer and steep for up to 5 minutes. The longer you steep, the stronger the infusion and the more pronounced the soothing and diuretic effects. If you steep for under 2 minutes, you can reuse the same tea once more—store it refrigerated and reuse within several hours for best flavor.
