Bang Bang Sauce Recipe

Bang Bang Sauce is one of my go-to sauces during grilling season. It pairs perfectly with salmon, chicken, pork, and roasted vegetables. Brush it on protein before cooking to lock in juices and create gorgeous, caramelized edges, or serve it cold as a dipping sauce for fries, shrimp, or fried chicken.

I often use this sauce on Crispy Bang Bang Salmon Bites, but its versatility means it’s equally good as a condiment for sandwiches, tacos, or a lively salad dressing.

What is Bang Bang Sauce

This version is the Americanized, mayonnaise‑based take commonly served with bang bang chicken and bang bang shrimp. While American restaurant versions emphasize a creamy, tangy, and slightly sweet flavor, the traditional Sichuan version is quite different: a sesame-paste and chili-oil dressing flavored with Sichuan peppercorns, black vinegar, and sometimes ginger, garlic, peanuts, and soy sauce.

Both styles are delicious in their own way. The easy mayonnaise-based version below is quick to make, crowd-pleasing, and adaptable if you prefer more heat, sweetness, or acidity.

For easy storage and convenient dispensing, transfer the sauce to a squeeze bottle or a jar with a tight lid. A squeeze bottle with an elevated nozzle keeps the tip cleaner and makes serving effortless.

Label bottles by type or thickness if you keep several condiments on hand. Thicker sauces like mayonnaise-based dressings work best with a wider nozzle; thinner sauces and syrups need a smaller valve for controlled pouring.
