Super Bowl Party Recipes from The Savoury Team

Sunday’s game brings the usual excitement, but around here we celebrate the food almost as much as the event. I call it National Finger Food Day: dips, chips and snack bowls take center stage. My family—especially the Evil Genius and the Minions—treat the Super Bowl like a holiday, so I plan the menu accordingly.

Over the years I’ve developed a solid repertoire of party-ready finger foods and gathered many of those recipes here. There were so many that I organized them into three teams: The Savoury Team (hearty, stick-to-your-ribs party food), The Sweet Team (desserts and treats), and the Halftime Show (smackable snacks). Each of these dishes keeps one hand free for the remote and can be prepared ahead so you spend less time away from the couch.

Below are sixteen of my favorite Super Bowl-worthy savory recipes. These crowd-pleasers are tried, true and recommended by our crew to yours.

Meat Lovers

Pretzel Wrapped Smoked Sausages with Cranberry Mustard

Soft, chewy pretzel dough wrapped around mini smoked sausages—what more could you ask for? These are my family’s all-time favorite snack for parties and celebrations. Serve them with a tangy cranberry mustard for an addictive, slightly elegant bite.

Slow-Cooked Cuban Pork

This slow-cooker shredded pork is one of my favorites. It needs some advance time—overnight cooking and chilling before pulling—but the result is reliably delicious. Serve it as Cuban pulled-pork tacos, stir it into soups, or use it in sliders.

Barbecue Pulled-Pork Sliders

Tangy pulled pork dressed in Carolina or Kansas City-style barbecue sauce, piled on crusty garlic rolls. These sliders disappear fast—perfect for hungry fans.

Chicken and Pork Potstickers

Crisped on the bottom and stuffed with a savory mix of chicken, pork, garlic, ginger and cabbage, these potstickers are irresistible. Serve with chili garlic paste, soy sauce and a few drops of sesame oil for maximum satisfaction.

Barbecue Bacon Cheeseburger Stuffed Sandwiches

Imagine barbecue bacon cheeseburger flavors—sloppy joe-style—stuffed into soft potato bread. These sandwiches are hearty and can be made ahead and frozen for game day convenience.

Sticky Chicky Bones

Every Super Bowl needs wings. These have an Asian twist—Sriracha, sesame oil, honey, garlic, ginger and a touch of citrus. They’re sticky, savory and addictive.

Corn Dog Bread

If you love corn dogs, try this elevated version: a slightly sweet buttermilk cornbread studded with quality frank slices, onions and candied jalapeños. Cut into squares and serve with mustard and ketchup.

Yooper Pasties

Perfect for cold weather parties, Yooper pasties are flaky pastry pockets filled with beef, potatoes, carrots, onions and rutabaga, seasoned simply with salt and pepper. Debate ketchup or gravy later—I’m a ketchup person.

Spicy Chicken and Cheese Calzones

Think of calzones as portable pizza: golden, chewy crust stuffed with melted cheese, tender chicken and crushed red pepper. Make them large for a full meal or mini-sized for nibbling.

Ham and Swiss on Onion Rye Pizza

This outstanding pizza uses a pre-baked onion-rye crust topped with balsamic caramelized onions, shaved ham and Swiss cheese. It bakes quickly and tastes far better than most takeout pies.

Ham and Cheese Bites

Buttery, herb-topped rolls filled with ham and gooey cheese, served with a Dijon mayonnaise—small, savory bites that disappear fast.

Bacon and Swiss Rye Muffins

Part muffin, part sandwich: these savory rye muffins are loaded with bacon and Swiss cheese. They’re indulgent, comforting and brilliant for a party spread.

Soup’s On!

Loaded Baked Potato Soup

A rich, creamy soup with a baked potato base pureed with chicken stock and butter, topped with all the classic baked potato fixings. It pairs perfectly with Ham and Swiss Rye Muffins and is ideal for chilly game days.

Taco Soup

Kid-friendly and budget-conscious, taco soup is versatile: serve it plain or pile on toppings—cheese, sour cream, avocado, tortilla chips—go wild. It’s comforting, hearty and crowd-pleasing.

Vegetarian and Universally Beloved

Falafel (Fried Savoury Chickpea Fritters)

Don’t dismiss vegetarian options—these falafel are crispy on the outside and tender inside, full of chickpea flavor. They’re addictive and a great meatless option for any party.

Mediterranean Hummus Pizza

This cold appetizer pizza starts with a pre-baked crust spread with creamy hummus and topped with thin cucumber slices, red onion, olives, crumbled feta and parsley. It’s fresh, bright and popular with vegetarians and meat-eaters alike.
