It’s been just over a week since I returned from a six-day Carnival Breeze cruise to Ocho Rios, Jamaica; Grand Cayman; and Cozumel, Mexico. I’ve shared some highlights already, and here I’ll break down the experience in more detail to help anyone considering a similar trip.

Dining on the Carnival Breeze

Recommendations for dinner at the Blush or Sapphire restaurants:

• Order some of the unique appetizer specials — those turned out to be our favorites. We especially enjoyed the beet carpaccio, Andalusian gazpacho, and cured salmon crudo.
• If you want a small culinary adventure, try the “Didja” offerings. They introduce you to unusual items in a fun way, such as escargot or alligator.
• Tell the waitstaff about minor dietary preferences — they genuinely want to make your meal enjoyable and are happy to accommodate where possible.
• If you have major food allergies or strict dietary needs, contact Carnival ahead of time so they can plan appropriate accommodations.

Other dining options on the Carnival Breeze:

We also dined at Fahrenheit 555 steakhouse, Bonsai Sushi, and Cucina del Capitano. These specialty venues charge a modest surcharge but elevate the onboard dining experience. The steakhouse is a standout — the tomato confit was memorable and the chef generously shared the recipe. Bonsai Sushi offers excellent a la carte options; their miso soup was particularly good. Cucina del Capitano serves classic, well-executed Italian dishes.

The Blue Iguana Cantina, Guy’s Burger Joint, Tandoor, Pizza Pirate, Comfort Kitchen, and room service are included in the fare and provide reliable, satisfying options. We practically lived on the fish tacos from Blue Iguana Cantina and loved the burgers at Guy’s. Pizza Pirate’s Italian-style pizzas are available 24/7 and are perfect for late-night cravings. For a special midnight treat, try the chocolate cake from room service and ask for extra chocolate mousse — it’s a decadent tip worth remembering.

Excursions on the Carnival Breeze

Our parasailing excursion on Grand Cayman was cancelled due to weather, which was clearly out of Carnival’s control. They offered alternatives and refunded our on-board account. Instead of rescheduling, we spent the day enjoying the ship’s waterslides and the spa.

In Cozumel we took the “Everybody Loves Rays” excursion where we fed, held, learned about, and swam with stingrays. The staff were knowledgeable, friendly, and ran the experience efficiently. It felt safe and enjoyable for everyone.

Recommendations for the “Everybody Loves Rays” excursion:

• If you’re bringing small children, prepare them for the size and strength of the stingrays. Ideally have two adults available so one can comfort a frightened child while the other participates.
• Bring a waterproof camera for snorkeling and swimming portions. Personal cameras aren’t allowed during the feeding/holding segment, but the crew takes photos you can purchase afterward. The photo CD was priced on the high side, but it included multiple images and extras.
• After the excursion, try the fish tacos and a mojito from the beach cantina — generous portions and very tasty.

Entertainment on the Carnival Breeze

We sampled a wide range of onboard entertainment: trivia, the Punchliner Comedy Club, shopping, water slides, the Piano Bar, on-deck movies, deck dance parties, and live shows. The Piano Bar was a highlight; Ben plays classics from many genres, encourages sing-alongs, and adds playful twists to songs. As the night goes on, the vibe becomes more adult-oriented and lively.

After 9 pm, the comedy shows are definitely for adults, with more risqué material. Family-friendly comedy sets are offered earlier in the evening for guests traveling with children.

The water slides were a blast. Tip: use them while the ship is docked and fewer guests are onboard to avoid long lines. We rode multiple times in quick succession without waiting.

The Spa and Fitness Center on the Carnival Breeze

The Spa:

We booked a “top-to-toe” spa treatment late in the cruise at a discounted rate. The package included dry brushing, a full-body massage with bamboo rollers and hot stones, a facial, and a scalp massage. The experience was deeply relaxing and left us feeling refreshed and pampered. If you can fit it into your itinerary, the spa is worth it.

The Fitness Center:

The fitness center is well-equipped with upright and recumbent cycles, ellipticals, treadmills, free weights, and a wide variety of machines. They also offer group classes and workshops on healthy living and weight management, making it easy to keep up with a fitness routine while on board.

Overall Experience on the Breeze

The ship attracted a lively, energetic crowd — everyone seemed eager to enjoy themselves. We participated in many activities and appreciated being able to retreat to our cabin and balcony for quiet moments. One of the most memorable, unexpected moments happened while walking the deck near sunset.

We rounded the corner and watched a man drop to one knee and propose as the sun set. She said yes, and we were able to share our photos with them — a truly romantic shipboard moment that felt like something out of a movie.
