I’m completely obsessed with nut milks. I don’t drink cow’s milk—cooking with it is fine and my kids love it, but drinking it makes me feel unwell—so I’ve embraced the many dairy alternatives available. Over the years I’ve tried plenty, and Silk has consistently been my top choice. Recently they launched Silk Cashewmilk, and it quickly became my favorite. It’s incredibly creamy and rich, perfect for chai lattes, smoothies, and any recipe that calls for a splash of milk.

With winter approaching and the holidays around the corner, I wanted a warm, festive drink to make for the kids after they’d been sledding. Candy Cane Silk Steamers were the ideal choice. The recipe is simple: blitz a few candy canes into a fine dust in the blender, add Silk Cashewmilk and a touch of vanilla syrup, then blend until the mixture is hot and frothy. Pour into mugs, top with whipped cream (we use dairy whipped cream at home, but coconut cream or another non-dairy topping works well), and sprinkle with crushed candy canes. The result is a rich, indulgent steamed milk drink with lovely notes of vanilla and peppermint—comforting and festive.
The kids didn’t just drink these— they devoured them.

Cook’s Notes
- I used Silk Original Cashewmilk for this recipe. If you choose the unsweetened variety, you may want to increase the vanilla syrup or add a different sweetener to taste.
- As an alternative to the vanilla syrup, 10 drops of a vanilla-flavored liquid sweetener (such as Vanilla Creme Stevia) can be used.
- I made these in the blender from start to finish for the frothiest result. If you don’t have a blender, crush the candy canes in a plastic bag with a rolling pin or mallet, then stir them into Silk Cashewmilk in a saucepan over low heat until dissolved and steaming. This stovetop version will be delicious but less frothy than the blender method.

Pin Recipe
Ingredients
- 4 candy canes divided
- 2 cups Silk Cashewmilk
- 2 tablespoons Mega Vanilla Syrup or 10 drops Vanilla Creme Stevia
Optional:
- whipped cream or non-dairy whipped topping
- additional crushed candy cane for garnish
Instructions
- Unwrap the candy canes. Break two into pieces and place them in the blender carafe. Secure the lid and blend on high until they are powdered. Allow the dust to settle briefly before opening. Add the Silk Cashewmilk and the Mega Vanilla Syrup (or the Vanilla Creme Stevia), replace the lid, and blend on high until steaming hot, about 3 minutes. Pour into two mugs and use the remaining candy canes as stir sticks. If desired, top with whipped cream or a non-dairy whipped topping and garnish with a pinch of crushed candy cane.
