Pizza is one of those wonderfully flexible foods that welcomes experimentation. Change one element and you might discover a new favorite — or a surprising delight. This honey-drizzled salami pizza does exactly that: simple ingredients come together in an unexpectedly delicious way.
A friend recently shared a photo of a “Pig and Honey” pizza from a Dallas pizzeria: salami topped with a drizzle of honey. Intrigued, I tasted a slice of salami with honey and was instantly hooked. The salty, garlic-forward salami, when crisped, develops edges that are reminiscent of bacon without being bacon — savory, slightly chewy in the middle and crisp at the rim. Paired with melted provolone and mozzarella, then finished with a touch of mild honey, each bite becomes bright and balanced.
We added this pizza to our holiday rotation because it’s consistently available, easy to prepare, and impressive to serve. It fills the kitchen with a mouthwatering aroma as it bakes and appeals to both kids and adults. The combination of melted cheese, ragged-edged salami, and a subtle honey finish makes it a crowd-pleaser — perfect for guests who brave cold weather and long drives to visit.

Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon semolina or cornmeal
- 1 pound pizza dough homemade or purchased
- 3/4 cup pizza sauce homemade or purchased
- 7-8 ounces shredded mozzarella about 2 cups
- 4 slices provolone cheese
- 12 thin slices hard salami
- 2 tablespoons mild honey or more to taste
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 475°F.
-
Drizzle 2 tablespoons of olive oil over the bottom of a rimmed half-sheet pan. Sprinkle the semolina or cornmeal evenly across the surface. Use lightly oiled hands to press and stretch the pizza dough over the pan, working it into the corners and up to the edges. If the dough resists, let it rest for 10 minutes and try again.
-
Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the crust. Scatter the shredded mozzarella over the sauce, then tear the provolone slices into 2-inch pieces and distribute them evenly. Arrange the salami slices across the top.
-
Bake the pizza for about 15 minutes, or until the crust is deep golden around the edges, the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the salami has curled and crisped at the edges. As soon as the pizza comes out of the oven, drizzle the honey primarily over the salami and a bit over the outer crust. Cut into rectangles and serve immediately with napkins on hand.
