Honey Sriracha Crispy Tofu in the Air Fryer: Sticky & Crunchy

Air fryer tofu turns out crisp outside and tender inside, with garlicky fragrance, a touch of heat and sweetness. It can convert even skeptical eaters—and it’s incredibly easy to make in an air fryer.

Tofu can sometimes be bland or have an unsatisfying texture, but air frying solves many of those issues. With a few simple steps and a couple of useful tricks, you’ll get the best results.

Air Fryer Tofu Recipes

The method is straightforward and follows four basic steps:

  1. Press the tofu.
  2. Cut the tofu.
  3. Marinate the tofu.
  4. Air fry the tofu.

Follow those steps and you’ll get flavorful, crispy cubes. A couple of tips make a big difference in texture and flavor.

First, always press the tofu. Even extra-firm tofu benefits from a 15-minute press to remove excess water. You can use a tofu press or improvise with a clean absorbent towel or paper towels on a rimmed sheet pan. Cut the block into sections, cover with another towel, place a second pan or a plate on top, and weigh it down with cans. Drain for 15 minutes.

An important trick: freeze the tofu before you marinate it. After pressing, cut the tofu into cubes and freeze them on a plate, then transfer to a freezer bag or container. Thaw the portion you plan to use in the refrigerator or microwave, then marinate. Freezing changes the texture, enlarging the pockets of liquid inside so the tofu drains more easily when thawed and soaks up more marinade, giving you deeper flavor.

Marinate Tofu

Marinating tofu is quick and simple. A basic honey-sriracha-style marinade delivers big flavor with minimal effort. Whisk together toasted sesame oil, rice vinegar, sriracha (or chili garlic sauce), soy sauce, honey, and minced garlic. Pour the mixture over pressed and cubed tofu and let it sit for 15 minutes.

That short marinating time makes a dramatic difference—don’t skip it. Toss the cubes occasionally so they get evenly coated.

Tofu in Air Fryer

The air fryer is where everything comes together. Preheat the air fryer for a few minutes, arrange the marinated tofu in a single layer in the basket, and air fry. For even crisping, shake the basket every 5 minutes so the edges brown uniformly. Total cook time is about 15 minutes at a moderate temperature.

The result is crispy, golden tofu without deep-frying or excess oil. Leftovers keep well: store cooled tofu in a sealed container in the refrigerator and reheat within four to five days. These cubes are perfect for salads, grain bowls, quick meals, or snacking.

Air-fried tofu is versatile and pairs well with steamed vegetables, rice, or noodles. A light drizzle of honey or an extra splash of sauce before serving adds a nice finishing touch.

Choosing an Air Fryer

If you plan to cook often with an air fryer, look for a model with a roomy basket so you can avoid tiny batches, and a removable dishwasher-safe basket for easy cleaning. A reliable, well-built unit will handle regular use and make weeknight cooking faster.

Air Fryer Tofu

Press tofu for 15 minutes to drain excess liquid. Cut into 1/2- to 3/4-inch cubes. If you can, freeze overnight and thaw before marinating for better texture and flavor absorption.

Combine the marinade ingredients—soy sauce, sriracha or chili garlic sauce, honey, rice vinegar, toasted sesame oil, and minced garlic—in a jar with a tight-fitting lid and shake, or whisk them in a small bowl. Pour the marinade over the tofu, toss to coat, and spread the cubes in a single layer. Cover and marinate for 15 minutes, tossing occasionally. In the last 5 minutes, preheat the air fryer to 400°F.

Add the marinated tofu to the preheated basket, set the air fryer to 375°F, and cook for 15 minutes, shaking every 5 minutes to ensure even browning and crisping. Garnish with a drizzle of honey just before serving.
