Honey Sriracha Glazed Salmon Bites – Sweet Spicy Salmon Skewers

featured 16390

Honey Sriracha Glazed Salmon Bites are one of those feel-good foods: small, seared salmon cubes tossed in a sticky, sweet, and spicy glaze flavored with garlic and fresh ginger. The sauce clings to the tender salmon, creating irresistible little bites.

My family can’t get enough of these, and they’re surprisingly quick and simple to prepare.

When the honey, sriracha, soy sauce, ginger, and garlic start to simmer and thicken in the pan, my kids (chopsticks at the ready) gather around. Those sticky bites are excellent practice for chopstick use because the glaze helps the salmon cling to rice, lettuce, or the chopsticks themselves.

Beyond being fun to eat, these glazed salmon bites are a gentle way to introduce reluctant fish eaters to seafood. One of my children used to avoid fish until he tried these; now he’s willing to try other seafood dishes too.

Be aware: the glaze smells incredible as it reduces, and it gets very hot. Resist tasting it until it cools slightly—hot honey can burn, so handle the bubbling sauce with care.

For best results, buy fresh, boneless salmon filets from your seafood counter. Ask the fishmonger to remove the skin if possible; if not, remove it at home. If using frozen filets, thaw them slowly in the refrigerator overnight.

Cooking is straightforward: sear bite-sized salmon cubes briefly in a hot pan, remove them, make the glaze in the same pan until it’s thick and glossy, then return the salmon to the reduced sauce so each piece becomes coated without falling apart.

A note on timing: don’t add the fish back to the pan before the sauce has reduced. If you do, the residual heat will break down the salmon and you’ll end up with a mash rather than neat bites.

I like to finish the dish with a sprinkle of sesame seeds and minced chives or green onions for a fresh burst of flavor and visual contrast.

Use this to make Honey Sriracha Glazed Salmon Bites:

  • Heavy skillet
  • Fish turner or slotted spatula
  • Whisk
  • Liquid measuring cup
  • Flexible spatula

If you enjoy salmon, try other preparations such as a miso-glazed broiled salmon or a smoked salmon pasta salad for variety. An air fryer also makes cooking salmon extremely simple and reliable.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound boneless skinless salmon filet, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • spray olive oil
  • 1/2 cup mild honey
  • 2 tablespoons sriracha
  • 2 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
  • 1 garlic clove minced or pressed
  • 1/2- inch section of fresh ginger root or 1/2 teaspoon dried ground ginger, grated
  • minced chives
  • sesame seeds

Instructions

  • Place a large, heavy-bottomed skillet over medium-high heat and spray lightly with olive oil. Add the salmon cubes and sear them briefly on all sides—no more than about 30 seconds per side—just to develop a bit of color. Use a slotted spatula to transfer the salmon to a plate.
  • Return the pan to high heat and add the honey, sriracha, soy sauce, rice vinegar, garlic, and ginger. Stir to combine and bring to a boil. Continue stirring as the sauce bubbles, thickens, and darkens slightly, about 3 minutes. If it darkens too quickly, reduce the heat to medium.
  • Add the seared salmon back to the pan and gently toss to coat each cube with the glaze. Transfer carefully to a serving dish to avoid breaking the pieces.
  • Garnish with sesame seeds and minced chives. Serve over hot rice, in lettuce wraps, or on its own.
